Info Post
By Juan Montoya
It started innocently enough as as a post on this blog's Facebook page about the supposed kidnapping of Mr. Amigo Eduardo Yanez, this year's selection as Mr. Amigo by the Brownsville group of that name.
Before it was over – and we don't know that it is over yet – this tempest in a tasa de cafe is threatening to involve the Cameron County Democratic Party and Mr. Amigo organization supporters.
A reader (Tommie Valladares )of the page asked if it was true that Yanez had been kidnapped in Matamoros at the end of his stay here. But the fact that it was posted as a submission to the Cheezmeh Facebook immediately drew suspicions from some quarters that the question was posted there to disparage the Mr. Amigo Association. For the uninitiated, Cheezmeh's Head Cheese Erasmo Castro has made it plain to anyone that has read that website that he, and he alone, controls the content of the site.
Mr. Amigo Association stalwart Zeke Silva immediately cried foul stating it was a dirty trick and that the posting was meant to discredit the work their organization was doing on a voluntary basis.
This drew a rebuttal, but not from space wasting bloggers with time on their hands, but rather from the chairperson (woman?) of the Cameron County Democratic Party Sylvia Garza Perez who came like a knight in shining armor to defend the honor of Cheezmeh's minstrel in distress.
"It wasn't Cheezmeh that posted this Mr. Silva, don't be do fast on accusing individuals," she wrote alongside her profile.
"I just attached the blog that posted the hoax – " she continued "let's time let's not be so judgmental - you work for a public servant and his reputation can be tarnished when we are fast to accuse and start pointing fingers."
Other posters quickly pointed out that Ms. Garza-Perez had posted defensive comments about Cheezmeh and asked whether she was "another marionette for the Cheezmeh cult?"
Silva, the independent owner of a trucking company who does part-time community outreach for the Cameron County District Attorney's office, is not known to roll over and play dead when confroned, said whether Castro had put the posting or not was not the issue, but rather that Erasmo had floated the lead balloon and tried to run with it.
"I will not let people like Erasmo, Administrator of Brownsville Cheezmeh try to blame the reputation of a great organization. You should be more concerned in protecting the Democratic Party than Brownsville Cheezmeh."
Well, I never!
It's obvious from the aforementioned spat between Garza-Perez and Silva that the Ernie Hernandez machine operatives like her, Erasmo and others who were openly supporting Carlos Masso's losing effort to get the DA's position have not finished licking their wounds. We don't know where this will end, but it is obvious that the wagons are circled and that the Hernandez minions will look out for each other.
We're sure that Mr. Saenz has bigger fish to fry than to get his feathers ruffled because the Democratic Party chair comes in defense of one of his losing detractors. But it is interesting to note that the woman who said that uniting the Democratic Party at the same time is trying to defend the politiqueras and Cheezmehmongerers. Those roles would seem to be in direct contradiction to each other.
